Leona “Lee” Pietra (Sutera) Chapman age 70, of Provincetown died Thursday, May 31, 2012 at Rosewood Manor in Harwich after a long illness. Lee was a lifelong Provincetown resident and the daughter of the late Ignatius J. and Frances (Perry) Sutera. She was the former wife of the late Carl F. Chapman Jr. who died in 1986. Mrs. Chapman was a graduate of Provincetown High School class of 1960. In January of 1961 she and Carl were married. She worked as a telephone operator in Provincetown in the ‘60s. She was a hostess at Stormy Harbor restaurant which was located on Commercial Street. She also worked as a chambermaid. Later she acquired her real estate license and worked for the Kent Edwards Real Estate Agency in Provincetown. For 16 years, between 1984 and 2000, she was employed at the Council of Aging. For much of that time she drove the van and worked in the office. When time would permit she would be enjoying one of her many hobbies such as chair caning, crocheting, knitting, furniture refinishing, working with stained glass, braiding rugs and quilting. She was a proud member of the “Happy Hookers,” a rug hooking group she belonged to. She also took dance lessons, bowled regularly on a bowling team and was a member of the Italian American Club. Her enthusiasm for life included the time she spent traveling. She enjoyed her trips to Portugal and Italy, the home of her ancestors.
For many years she was the life partner of the late James D. Cullum, formerly of Dennis who died in 2011. Together they enjoyed traveling in their RV. Several years ago they spent 6 months traveling to Alaska with other members of an RV club they belonged to. She derived her greatest pleasure from the time she spent with her children and grandchildren. She is the mother of Stacey L. (Chapman) Tarrant and her husband David of Quincy, Stephen J. Chapman of Orleans, Dana L. Chapman and his partner Jeffrey Aizley of Provincetown and Cory M. Chapman and his girl friend Robin Turner of Orleans. She was the grandmother of Keith and Amy Tarrant of Quincy.
An hour of visiting will take place on Tuesday June 5, 2012 from 10:00 to 11:00am in the Gately-McHoul Funeral Home 94 Harry Kemp Way Provincetown followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00am.
